My Story

Richmond isn’t just where I live—it’s where I grew up, where my family built their lives, and where I hope future generations can build theirs.

My name is Daniel Tsang (曾慶邦), and I’ve called Richmond home since I was one year old.
Like many Richmond families, my story isn’t extraordinary. I attended H.J. Cambie Secondary, studied History and International Relations before earning a Master’s Diploma in Public Administration and Ethics, built my career, and chose to invest my time back into the community that helped shape me.

Today, I work for British Columbia’s Ministry of Attorney General as a Business Applications Advisor in the Strategic Information and Business Applications division. My job is simple in principle but complex in practice: solve problems.

Every day I help modernize the technology that supports our justice system. My work has helped improve courtroom technology, expand virtual court appearances, and develop web-based tools that allow judges and lawyers to securely retrieve courtroom audio remotely. Behind every improvement is the same question I ask myself:

How can we make government work better for the people it serves?

That mindset doesn’t stop when I leave work.

For the past several years, I’ve served on the River Green 1 Strata Council as Privacy Officer, where I’ve worked with fellow volunteers to make practical decisions that affect hundreds of residents. I’ve also coached youth soccer because I believe communities become stronger when people invest in the next generation.

These experiences have shown me something important: good government isn’t about ideology. It’s about responsibility, accountability, and delivering results.

Over the years I’ve watched Richmond change. We all have.

We’ve become one of Canada’s most diverse and successful cities. We have incredible entrepreneurs, thriving family businesses, world-class industries, and neighbourhoods where generations of families have chosen to put down roots.

But I’ve also watched many residents begin asking the same question: Can Richmond do better?

Young people struggle to find meaningful local employment. Small businesses face increasing pressures. Seniors deserve confidence that they’ll receive quality care. Families want to feel safe in their neighbourhoods. Taxpayers expect their money to be spent wisely and transparently.

These aren’t partisan issues. They’re Richmond issues.

I’m running because I believe our city deserves fresh ideas and practical leadership.

I believe we should support local businesses because they create jobs and strengthen our community.

I believe we should invest in young people by connecting them with employers through a Richmond Youth Jobs Portal and encouraging entrepreneurship so they can build successful careers without leaving the city.

I believe we should strengthen public safety by ensuring our police have the resources they need to deter crime in busy commercial areas and neighbourhoods.

I believe seniors deserve strong oversight and accountability in the care they receive.

And I believe every tax dollar should be treated with the same care and respect that Richmond families use when managing their own household budgets.

My approach is shaped by my career.

When a system isn’t working, you don’t ignore the problem.

You study it.

You ask difficult questions.

You measure results.

Then you improve it.

That’s the mindset I want to bring to Richmond City Council.

I’m not interested in politics for the sake of politics. I’m interested in solving problems.
Richmond has enormous potential. We have talented residents, resilient businesses, outstanding community organizations, and one of the strongest local economies in British Columbia.

The next chapter of Richmond shouldn’t be about simply maintaining the status quo.

It should be about building a city where businesses can thrive, young people can build their futures, seniors are respected, neighbourhoods remain safe, and local government earns the trust of the people it serves.

If elected, I will work hard, ask tough questions, listen respectfully, and always remember who I represent. It’s time to demand more accountability, transparency and integrity.
